On January 27th, 2025, The Adeola Adeyemi Foundation (TAAF) successfully hosted its Personal Care & Cleanliness Awareness Program at LEA Wuse II Primary School, Zone 3, Abuja. This initiative was designed to educate pupils on essential hygiene practices and reinforce the importance of clean water and sanitation in schools.
It is a well-known fact that proper hygiene is crucial to human health, especially in communal settings like schools. However, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, nearly one-third of schools globally still lack basic water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. In Nigeria, the situation is even more alarming—UNICEF reports that 86% of schools do not have access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities, leading to absenteeism and health risks among students.
Understanding the vital role of hygiene in student well-being, TAAF organized this outreach to equip young learners with knowledge on maintaining cleanliness and preventing diseases. The highlight of the event was an engaging session by NP Precious Eze, who spoke on “The Four (4) Germ Busters to Cleanliness.” She emphasized key hygiene habits, including handwashing, oral hygiene, proper bathing, and keeping the environment clean, to help prevent infections.
Beyond education, TAAF took a step further by donating personal hygiene souvenirs, learning materials, and bucket taps to encourage regular handwashing and cleanliness among pupils, as well as cleaning agents to teachers. These resources will serve as a lasting contribution for both pupils and teachers in fostering better hygiene practices within the school.
The event saw full participation from pupils, teachers, and TAAF team members, all working together to create a fun and educational experience. The excitement and enthusiasm displayed by the children showed the effectiveness of such initiatives in promoting long-term positive hygiene habits.
TAAF remains committed to advocating for healthier living conditions and empowering children with knowledge that will shape their well-being. This outreach program is just one of many more to come, as we strive to make a lasting difference in our communities.
